The SCAMP Framework Vol.5: Film, Climate, Ocean, Poverty and Nightlife Prompts
Each Vol.5 genre uses the SCAMP framework differently. Here is how to write cinematic prompts for the most human collection yet.
The SCAMP framework — Subject, Camera, Atmosphere, Mood and Palette — applies to every genre in every volume. But Vol.5's five genres each require a specific approach. These are the most human genres in the collection, and the human detail is what makes them cinematic.
Film BTS: Show the Gap, Name the Invisible Craft
The most cinematic film BTS prompts show the gap between the production reality and the finished image. Name the invisible crafts — foley, colour grading, continuity — and make visible what the audience never consciously registers but always feels.
A foley artist creating the sound of a rain sequence using specific surfaces and techniques, the rain made without water, the craft of sonic invention in a dry studio. Studio close, foley precision. Sound invention, rain without rain, craft made visible.
Climate Hope: Evidence and the Human Story Inside It
Ground the hope in specific measurable evidence. Then find the human story inside the data — the ranger who spent twenty years protecting the species, the farmer who changed their practice and watched the soil improve.
The salmon run in a river where salmon have been absent for fifty years, the restoration that made it possible visible in the water quality, the run recorded as proof. Underwater documentary, river. Fifty year absence ended, proof in the run, evidence as hope.
Ocean Maritime: Use the Scale, Name the Knowledge
The ocean reduces human scale to something honest. Use ultra-wide shots that make the boat small and the water vast. And name the specific knowledge that the sea requires — the knowledge is the character.
A solo sailor in the middle of the Pacific using star navigation on a cloudy night, the stars barely visible, the knowledge sufficient, the ocean the same in every direction. Ultra-wide aerial, tiny boat. Knowledge in darkness, ocean surrounding, star navigation.
Poverty Social: Lead with Dignity, Find the Creativity
Lead with the subject's dignity rather than their circumstances. Then find the creativity within the constraint — the food bank recipe that is genuinely delicious, the repair cafe skill that is genuinely expert.
A food blogger creating genuinely delicious meals from a very tight budget, the creativity visible in every substitution, the dignity of constraint made into something to be proud of. Documentary kitchen, cooking. Creative constraint, budget cooking, dignity in the result.
Nightlife: Specify the Hour, Include the Work
Name the specific hour. Each hour of the night has its own population and emotional register. And acknowledge the labour — the after-dark city is primarily a working city.
A hospital nursing station at 3am, the quiet that is not really quiet, the monitoring that never pauses, the night nurses doing what the day does not see in the way that matters most. Documentary clinical, night station. 3am monitoring, quiet as full, night nursing.
